Re: 1996 xj
I took a deposit on the jk today. Most of it is being used responsibly for the business, but say I have $6 to 7k to spend on the xj this winter. Where does it go. My thoughts and some back ground: -I'm happy with the xj my only issue that bugs me is the lack of ground clearance with the tires at 4-6...

Re: 1996 xj
Pretty sure this guy got some new tail lights..... Let's see em! New taillight boxes. 14 gauge, I welded them straight to the body. XJ's are wired kind of weird they use one bulb per function stop, turn, brake. Most people use trailer wiring converters I just used 3 lights, plus one for reverse. Di...

Re: 1996 xj
Trip to Slade, KY always a good time. Before the trip I went thru the front axle and put in the warrantied ten factory shafts, a steering stabilizer, and gave it a decent tape measure alignment. https://scontent-ort2-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/36483897_10102698514008548_8393045371231666176_n.jpg?_nc_ca...

Re: Roll Cage Re-work
It is not connected to the frame in the way we would normally do it. The cage is tied into the full length tub rocker armor that is tied into the beefed up body mounts that it has a bunch of (12 iirc). This sees a lot more road miles than most of our junk. That said I do like the idea of a lower cen...

Belt Sander Build
Now daily use has ended many of my long time tools including my harbor freight disc sander. I wanted a 6x48 belt and 12" disc combo as big and heavy as possible. A new American made unit was ~$2500 Chinese was ~$12-1500. I found this on craigslist in Detroit for $150 iirc. 1970's vintage Rockwell. I...

Re: Roll Cage Re-work
The second problem is the lower kickers on the b-pillar are about 5" from the seat. Making it hard to get in and out or sit very comfortably for anyone other than a child. I realize the current setup is the best design strength wise. 0618182051.jpg Current.jpg My though is to add a lower bar just of...

Roll Cage Re-work
I am doing some re-work on the roll cage I put in Ben and Tish's 4 door jk. Since the roll cage they add suspension seats and 5 points to the back. The seats are back as far as possible. There were two issues with this setup. It put the top of the c-pillar directly over the back seat. This was prett...

Re: Battery cables and lugs
I crimp all of mine. Regular copper terminals, I like this type of crimper you can use it easily on vehicles replacing an end. Adhesive heat shrink over it

Re: What would you build today?
I'm still pretty hung up on the lightweight rigs. We wheeled with this guy last weekend. He idled up everything the v8 one ton jeeps/buggies were doing with a lot of throttle. https://scontent-ort2-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/31945759_10102652914994338_1216210076801433600_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&oh=b34cb031ab6d...
